November 2021 - Day Five

I had five pages penciled for today, but only managed to get three finished while there was still good light...

(I've just been taking pictures of these... I do have a scanner they'd fit on, but it's about 20 years old and now any time I scan something there's a white line down one side....)

November 2021 - Day Three/Four

I kind of started these yesterday... but didn't finish them up until today...

I swear that's the end of the "Introduction"...

Sort of...

November 2021 - Behind the Scenes

I really did just come up with this daft idea on Sunday...

Initially I thought I'd do this just one page at a time...

Right in my sketchbook, starting when I left off at the end of October...

I still really like the idea of having done it in my sketchbook, but I VERY QUICKLY realized there would be certain logistical problems with doing so and had to make adjustments...

Also, after doing this first page, I decided it would probably be a better idea if I actually plotted out - at the very least - the day's pages...

And so I did that in my BIG sketchbook.

And then started doing them on individual pages... which went MUCH quicker...

Starting with Day Two, I began typing the dialogue into the computer, because I had all sorts of ideas, but wasn't initially sure where to put them in the overall dialogue... and once they were in order, I printed it off and tried to figure out page and panel breakdowns from there...

thought the second batch of eight pages were worked out for Day Two, I only got four of them finished.

All of the pages so far.

November 2021 - Day Two

 Day Two, y'all.

(not quite 8 pages)

When you suddenly realize, halfway through inking the first day's pages, that your main characters are subjects of Andy Warhol paintings...

Oh no! What's happened to the Banana and the Can!? Find out tomorrow... or..  maybe later today!?

November 2021 - Day One

As hinted at in the previous post... I started a new thing...

I should probably just let the comics tell the story (since so much of these first days is... well.. explaining the whole thing...)

Pulpspotting

Just over 18 years ago I self-published Pulpspotting. It collected a story previously published in issues 25, 26, and 27 of ObLiVioSiTeR (a minicomic I published from 1995 – 2000) and was, at the time, the longest complete story with consistent artwork that I had yet produced. This was my first (and, so far, only) graphic novel.

The story is very loosely based on a end-of-the-school-year party I went to with a friend and thoughts I had about it and trends in popular culture afterwards. I’ll just leave it at that….

Below are some sample pages

(Remember: click on the pictures below to see a slightly larger version)

It is on Goodreads:

(go on… give it some love…)

I’d actually planned to post this immediately after the post about the ObLiVioSiTeR… In fact I DID the ObLiVioSiTeR post so I could refer to it in this post and I did both of those posts so I could, when I announced the new graphic novel I’m working on, could point to this previous work… but…  you know… I’m lazy. I’d also wanted to sort out some sort of paypal account or way people could send money if they actually WANTED a copy of Pulpspotting (I still have a thousand or so of them in my basement!). Alas, I have still not managed to get around to doing that….

News about the NEXT graphic novel!?
